Chacala, Nayarit. Mexico.

Chacala is a beach-town set in small cove on the Pacific coast of Mexico in the State of Nayarit. It is located about 100 kilometers (62 mi) north of Puerto Vallarta. The name means “where there are shrimp” in Náhuatl, and is part of the coastline known as the Riviera Nayarita.

The curve of the Chacala bay keeps the surf calm on most days, allowing for safe swimming and water sports. There are a row of palapa-covered restaurants under coconut palm trees where you can sit in the shade and enjoy a cold drink and fresh locally caught shrimp.

The community of Chacala is very united and entrepreneurial. Its citizens are kind and always interested in sharing their culture and experiences. You’ll find everything from snorkeling to kayaking to whale watching, and even surfing. Chacala is known for it’s fishing.

Chacala is a small fishing village roughly 2 hours north of Puerto Vallarta in Nayarit, Mexico.

The primary International gateway to Nayarit Mexico is Via Puerto Vallarta. Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR). From the US and Canada, there are many airlines serving PVR. Both scheduled and charters as well. Here are a few of the select companies with regular flights from the USA and Canada.

Note that the time in Chacala is 1 hour earlier than Puerto Vallarta. This is important on your return flight but we have you covered!

Driving to Chacala one takes the single lane Highway 200 North. As you enter this highway you will see signs to Compostela and Tepic these cities are beyond Chacala but this is the right direction. Leaving the airport you will pass through the cities of Nuevo Vallarta,Bucerias,Sayulita,San Francisco(San Pancho) Guayabitos, and La Penita. There are many other smaller towns en route but these are the larger landmark cities.

After you pass through Guayabitos/La Penita area Chacala is about 15 minutes North. The landmark before the Chacala turnoff is a large LP Gas on the Left called Global Gas. After you pass this look for a large string of Fruit stands to the right about 5 minutes north. The Chacala exit is across from these stands.

We plan to have everyone meet in Puerto Vallarta airport at 4pm on Thursday April 4th. Then we can all head to Chacala together.

3 amazing meals a day plus snacks. Bottled water will be provided.

Although very rare, some travelers also receive Hepatitis B, Malaria and Rabies vaccinations. Head to your GP or a travel clinic to make sure you are good to go.

Chacala is one of the most beautiful beaches in Nayarit, Mexico. It is a sleepy fishing town and less visited by tourists making it somewhat of a hidden gem. Villagers are friendly to tourists and want you to come back one day!
That being said, this is Mexico and it is important to take care of your belongings and travel in numbers- especially at night. Just like at home!
